    We have all levels of jiu-jitsu. We have the first class structured as an hour of nothing but instruction. We use this time to learn the techniques and applications of the technique. After that class the “open roll” starts.During this informal class we practice what we learn! This hour long class consists of rounds of sparring. This is a necessary part of learning BJJ. You must learn to put techniques on an oppent that doesn’t want you too. Just pick someone and have fun!  There are NO EGO’s at the Peoria Athletic Club. If you are inexperienced, we will train with you accordingly.

    KIDS BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

    Parents choose to enroll their children in martial arts classes for a variety of reasons. Whether your interested in highly effective self-defense, neutralizing the effects of bullying, or improving your child’s behavior, confidence and self-esteem, there is no better art than Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

    Brazilian “Jiu-Jitsu”, translated as “The Gentle Art”, employs several leverage-based self-defense techniques that allow even smaller, weaker practitioners to effectively neutralize physical threats during an assault from larger, stronger assailants.

    Generally, martial arts programs (i.e. Karate, Tae Kwon Do) train practitioners to employ violence to counter the violence of an attacker.  Unfortunately, these striking techniques will typically only escalate the danger for your child, as well as the assailant.  Instead of teaching your child to punch or kick, Peoria Athletic Club will prepare your child to master the following skills:

    1. Clearly identify the difference between harmless play and a threat.
    2. Take every measure to avoid the fight.
    3. Defeat verbal attacks.
    4. Effectively defend themself if physically attacked.
    5. Establish control without using violence until help arrives.
    6. Utilize the minimum possible force if required to fully neutralize the threat.

    These skills have consistently been proven to empower children to effectively address immediate physical threats.  Further, the child will be prepared to deter the abusive threats, intimidation and assaults of a bully that often lead to life-long psychological and emotional torment if not successfully addressed.

    The resulting benefits of studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, however, are significantly greater than self-defense alone.  Most parents begin to notice their children continually improving in the following areas:

    We have all levels of Muay Thai Kickboxing (MTK). The regualr MTK class is structured for instruction. In this class you will learn proper technique on the basics of MTK while working on the thai pads. In the advanced MTK class you will work on you sparring technique in whats called “timing”. Timing isn’t full on sparring. Its used to work the different techniques you have learned.

    About

    Boxing is a combat sport of English origin in which two participants of similar weight fight each other with their fists in a series of one to three-minute intervals called rounds. Victory is achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten (a Knockout, or KO) or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue (a Technical Knockout, or TKO). If there is no stoppage of the fight before an agreed number of rounds, a winner is determined either by the referee’s decision or by judges’ scorecards.
